What MS pipe is, and why NB is not the outside diameter
MS pipe is mild steel tube, most commonly made by rolling strip into a cylinder and welding the seam — electric resistance welded, or ERW. It is used both as a structural member and as a conduit for water and air.
The thing worth getting right at the enquiry stage is sizing. Pipe is specified by nominal bore, written NB, and nominal bore is not the outside diameter. A 25 NB pipe measures roughly 33.7 mm across the outside. Two pipes of the same NB can also differ in wall thickness, which is what the light, medium and heavy classes describe.
